What is Bestlife and how are we making it better?

01 November 2023

By: Emma Wragg - JU:MP Staff

Over the course of September through to November, JU:MP researchers have been conducting focus groups in a variety of primary and secondary schools. The focus groups involved getting the children to test out the Bestlife app first hand and feedback their thoughts to the team.

At one school, Holybrook Primary School, the focus group was held during the class’s PE lesson. This meant there was access to the sports hall and equipment, resulting in a fun afternoon with the children and staff being super active! From this, it allowed the team more insight into what features the children loved about the app, as well as any potential improvements.

Through consulting with the children, the Bestlife app has had some amazing feedback so that it can be made into the best possible version. We hope to add more clothing items to the store, as well as the addition of sports equipment for the avatars to hold, and even PETS! Plus, there will be many, many more exciting additions in the coming future …

Bestlife is a brand-new app that launched in July, with a goal of getting young children and families more physically active. The app is free to download on both the app store and google play store, meaning it can be used on phones, tablets and iPads. Once downloaded, children will have the opportunity to choose from 3 avatars and then choose a name for their respective avatar. Once the character is created, there are a range of fun activities to complete in order to earn points.  These include balancing doing kicky uppies, demonstrate your remarkable strength doing frog squats, or even go to Peel Park or Lister Park to scan a QR code.

It is also important to note that there will be QR codes available to scan when attending sport sessions held by a JU:MP provider. Points earned can then be used in the store to buy clothing to customise the avatar, such as jazzytops, colourful hair or even stylish shoes like crocs! One of the many amazing features about this app is that children can play it individually, or it can be played amongst families and friends using the ‘Collab’ section. Collaborating means more people can join in on the fun and become more physically active together!

On behalf of the whole JU:MP team, we would like to say a massive thank you to the schools and children who are helping to develop this one-of-a-kind Bradford based Bestlife app.
