Over 1,000 Bradford Children Take On Their First Triathlon

20 May 2026

We joined forces with The Brownlee Foundation yesterday to bring the excitement of triathlon to primary school children across the Bradford district.

More than 1,000 primary school children from across Bradford took part in The Brownlee Foundation Bradford Schools triathlon event, braving the elements to swim, bike and run their way through a full triathlon experience for the very first time.

Held at Bradford Grammar School, the event was designed to give children their first taste of triathlon in a fun, supportive and fully inclusive environment. The teams ensured no child was left on the sidelines with those less confident in the water able to walk, jump or skip in the shallow end, while anyone less comfortable on a bike had the option to scoot instead.

The event follows on from the recent Ride Bradford event in Keighley, and one moment captured the spirit of both perfectly. A young girl who had taken part in Keighley at the weekend returned for the Bradford schools event and finished first in her group. It’s exactly the kind of momentum Active Bradford is here to build.

The work between Active Bradford and The Brownlee Foundation is set to continue with the launch of the Bradford Bike and Run Club on 1st June 2026. For more info email contact@thebrownleefoundation.org
