Families can adapt the games for children of different ages and abilities too and we hope playing them will create some great memories of this time spent at home together.

North Bradford’s National Lottery funded Sport England programme, JU:MP (Join Us: Move. Play), supported by behaviour change agency, Magpie, has launched a new resource JU:MP@Home to support families with young children to move and play whilst in lockdown.

More than 30 activities are available for all families to access online and download, both in video and written format. Two new activities will be added weekly for as long as lockdown continues and thereafter. Children from across Bradford are already sending in their own activity videos such as Lava LeapCatch and ClapWhat’s your name?, and Jump rope.

All activities have been tested with children and don’t require a lot of space or specialist equipment. Family members with different abilities can also join in. Families can also adapt the games for children of different ages and abilities.

Jan Burkhardt, Programme Director at JU:MP explains how this resource will help families:

“The reality of daily life often means that it can be harder for families to be active and we want to help with this. Keeping active will help children and families stay healthy which is really important in the current situation. JU:MP@Home gives ideas for fun ways to move and play and aims to offer something different to PE activities such as the Joe Wickes online sessions. We hope playing them will create some great memories of this time spent at home together.”

“More than 50,000 physical JU:MP@Home activity packs were also delivered to houses in the inner North Bradford area in April. More will be distributed to families on low incomes across Bradford through community hubs and local charities. We’ve been absolutely thrilled with the response so far with lots of families sending in photos and videos of their activities on social media.”

JU:MP aims to help address an issue that many families face for a variety of reasons; struggling to keep their children active. Research shows that children need to be active in order to be happy, healthy and sleep better.
