JU:MP Youth Design Group takes on Leeds Urban Bike Park
17 February 2026
The Holme Wood JU:MP Youth Design Group took their design skills to the next level yesterday with an inspiring visit to Leeds Urban Bike Park. The trip gave the young people invaluable firsthand experience as they work on creating the exciting Valley Project Bike Hub for their community.
The visit was about more than just research – it was an opportunity for the group to get active, push themselves out of their comfort zones, and try something completely new. From navigating unfamiliar terrain to mastering techniques they’d never attempted before, the young designers showed tremendous enthusiasm and determination while building new skills and confidence. Hopefully the visit also developed a passion for cycling that will support an active lifestyle for years to come!
The hands-on experience allowed them to discover what makes a bike park truly special, insights that will prove invaluable as they continue developing their plans for the Holme Wood Bike Hub.
“The Youth Design Group embodies everything we believe in at JU:MP,” said Caroline Swain, Community Engagement Manager. “These young people are actively involved in designing, planning and improving their spaces. Whether it’s creating Play Street Kits for the community or developing the Valley Project Bike Hub, they’re experiencing these activities first hand and using that knowledge to create something incredible for everyone in Holme Wood. Watching them challenge themselves at the bike park yesterday and see their ideas come to life through real experience was truly inspiring.”
The trip was made possible through partnership working between JU:MP, The Valley Project and Emerge in Holme Wood, demonstrating the power of collaborative community development.
